Fall Is Really Here!

This paw print was in the mud along the driveway. We had a good trip to Vancouver a couple of weeks ago and found Rachael a winter vehicle. He still isn't named so any ideas welcome.

The new 'Garage in a Box' for the tractor.

We took a walk up the mountain behind the house - here is the view of the Valley and the River.

It was the first hiking trip since Oscar was attaked by the Cougar about three weeks ago. The vet said that looking at his injuries he was jumped on from behind and that BoJangles probably came back to scare it off. Cougars, also known as Mountain Lions, can weigh anything between 150-250 lbs (68-115kg).

He had some nasty open wounds which we had to bathe and he had some antibiotics - we think he was mostly upset by having to wear the plastic cone collar. He was very lucky.

Beautiful colours in the sunshine.

The view from the kitchen window this morning.

And just for fun...... here is the house this time last year, yep just the subfloor nothing else!

It is still 29 degrees during the day....but heading towards the Fall.

It is almost four months since we last blogged and there has been lots happening in that time. The weather has been wonderful and continues to be very warm during the daytime but heading down to 5 degrees at night time which has made the leaves on the trees start to change.
We are flying the flag for Brits Abroad ....... buying back BC one acre at a time!

We have a new family member, introducing BoJangles (the larger dog) who we adopted from our neighbours. He is a mix of an Airedale Terrier and a Karelian Bear Dog and weighs about 90 lbs. Oscar now looks quite small in comparison but he is the size of a labrador... honest!BoJangles and Oscar have known each other for over a year now so get along really well. Here we are today on our walk at Crescent Beach. BoJangles has been really good at keeping the bears away from the house.

We have done some landscaping - low maintenance is our preferred option - gravel and pot plants.

We haven't had any rain since 17th July so everything is quite dry.

To celebrate our wedding anniversary we have been on a helicopter ride over Nelson, the Valhalla Mountains and the new house. Here we are taking off in Nelson. You can just see the orange bridge in the background.

Here are the Valhalla Mountains.

And the Slocan Valley.

Here is the house from a distance with our neighbours behind on their 100 acres.

Here is the house close up.

We don't have many photos of all the Boys together but this one was taken when BoJangles had been with us just 3 days. Felix, Oscar and BoJangles aka small, medium and large.

Our driveway to the neighbours house after Rachael had mowed it with the electric lawn mower and 5 extension cables.....

A better scale photo of the dogs.

Our very own bear.

Moved In!

Three days before the moving day deadline we were waiting for final fix electrical.

Our staircase was custom made to our design - the railings match the wood stove pipe.

The East Gable near the front door.

Part of the kitchen.

The Arts and Crafts style lights.

The view from the breezeway of Copper Mountain.

The house and Big Red the tractor. Thank you to rachael's Dad for coming over to help again - this time with the move and all the final fixing. We enjoyed taking him to the local bar for burgers and beer whilst watching the ice hockey - our very own Yorkshire Canuck!

Interior Work

The interior framing was completed.

We had our slash pile burned. Standing at 4 stories high we managed to get 80% burnt in two days. Here is a photo of Shaun stood near the fire at the start. Here is the fire after 24 hours.

The photo below was around half way through.

The insulation was completed and signed off by the Buildings Inspector ready for the dry wallers to get started.

Oscar and Felix having a busy day.

The insulation then got its vapour barrier.

And the dry wall went on. This is the Master Bath and Bedroom.

The loft hallway.

We even managed to go skiing this weekend!
